LATEST NEWS

20th May 2009.

Two new book releases. Following on from the release of Paul Philippou's 'Spanish Thermopylae' at the Imperial War Museum in March we are now pleased to announce the release of 'Not just Orwell' by Christopher Hall on May 30th at the Working Men's Library in Salford, Manchester at 2.00pm. Contact us for further details.

This book is not the usual type of book from us. as it covers the experiences of another group of anti-fascist fighters who are not usually considerd in a kind light by the International Brigades. Though only a small group of about 40 Independent Labour Party members fought on the Aragon front in early 1937, they are part of Orwell's story in 'Homage to Catalonia'. The author, Chris Hall, has written a book which I hope will allow readers to examine the background behind Orwell's book and also the people who fought alongside him and whose shadows are observed in 'Homage'. The internecine fighting between the POUM and the Communist Party dominated Republican government is also explained in detail. It is probably a great coincidence that the announcement in Cannes of a film adaptation of 'Homage to Catalonia ' has been announced to star Colin Firth and Kevin Spacey.

'Not just Orwell; The Independent Labour Party Volunteers and the Spanish Civil War' will be available from 30th May at £14.99 plus £2.50 postage and packing.

Also expect the new paperback edition of Angela Jackson's 'British Women and the Spanish Civil War' to be released at the IBMT's annual gathering at the London Eye on July 4th starting at 11.00am. We will have the book avaialable in the Travel Inn in the oldd GLC building after the event where a Social and meal will be offered. Look up the IBMT website for further details. This revised and updated edition is a valuable source on the many activities of British women who supported the Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War. We expect great interest in the book as it has been awkward to find an affordable copy. This will retail for £19.99 puld £2.50 poatage and packing from July 4th. To be sure of a copy please contact W&P to reserve one for collection on July 4th.

WE HAVE MOVED!

1st October 2008. At last I have made the momentous decision to move to Catalunya.

Following an attempt to travel between the United Kingdom and Catalunya, I have now decided for a number of reasons to move permanently to Catalunya and settle here and to explore the culture, language and history of Catalunya and Spain. You will still see me at various International Brigade Memorial Trust events (though sadly not at this year's Dundee AGM). Keep in touch and I will endeavour to kep you updated though this website.

My new contact details are as follows:

Warren & Pell Publishing, Ap de Correus 116, 08901 Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona SPAIN. tel. 00 34 933376319, mobile 00 34 638438766

Three new books on one month! Well, at least there will be a good choice on my shared bookstall on the Ramblas on St Jordi’s Day in Barcelona on April 23rd this year. Look for me there!

Firstly Jack Jones' updated autobiography "Union Man" will be released at a joint celebration for Jack's 95th birthday on Wednesday April 9th at Transport House, 128 Theobalds Road, Holborn, London, WC1X 8TN at 6.00pm. We will also have on hand our other books for sale and we look forward to meeting you there.

In addition I also have brought back some copies of Michael Petrou's "Renegades. Canadians in the Spanish Civil War" (the bulk are being shipped to the UK as I write). Published in collaboration with the University of British Columbia Press, we are only able to sell our copies in Europe. See above how to contact University of British Columbia Press to order a copy..
